My guest today is career journalist Carlen Maddux. In his Best Selling book The Path Revealed: How Hope, Love and Joy Found Us Deep in a Maze Called Alzheimer’s Carlen describes the journey he and his late wife Martha traveled the last 17 years of their life together.

Just days after turning 50 years old, Martha, a spirited mother and civic activist, is told she has Alzheimer’s disease. Martha and Carlen feel as though they’ve been dropped out of an airplane miles off the ground, with no parachutes.

But A Path Revealed is not about the life struggles and psychological fallout from an insidious disease of nearly two decades. It is, in Carlen’s words, “The story of a path emerging during our darkest hours, a path that we neither planned, nor foresaw.”
