Featuring: Destiny Drake West

DDW-Headshot-2019Destiny Drake West is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Drake Institute of Research and Policy, a nonpartisan policy think tank based in Washington, D.C. She spearheads research and technology development for the institute and establishes partnerships with grassroots organizations and women legislators. Through her work at the Drake Institute, she has developed one of the most expansive public policy taxonomies in the nation. Her policy taxonomy categorizes more than 300 women’s policy issues into 35 areas of concentration, which helps facilitate collaboration among researchers and policymakers.

Destiny holds a Master of Advanced Study in Criminology, Law, and Society from the University of California, Irvine and a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from California Baptist University. She also holds a certificate in Public Policy from the Los Angeles African American Women Public Policy Institute (LAAAWPPI) and is the recipient of the 2017 Dickman Graduate Research Award for Community Engagement presented by the University of California Irvine. For her leadership and civic engagement accomplishments, Destiny has received several congressional awards, including a Certificate of Recognition from U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Karen Bass, and a Certificate of Special Recognition from Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
