Featuring: Peter DeChat

My guest today, Mr. Peter DeChat, is a man who has literally and spiritually been through the fire of life.

Peter’s book, Through the Fire: the True story of a 21 century Job, gives an account of the overwhelming and crushing suffering he experienced on July 11th 2007 when, like Job, Peter was a very successful affluent man who was blessed with children, a loving spouse and a comfortable life. Job lived in a land called Uz with his large family and extensive flocks. …The story goes that God shared with Satan what a good man Job was but Satan argues that Job is only good because God blessed him abundantly. Satan challenges God that, if given permission to punish the man, Job will turn and curse God.

Peter burned over 96% of his body, requiring years of healing and recovery. His step son was also severely burned and Peter’s 4 years old daughter, Gabriela, died in the fire.

Peter remained in a medically induced coma for 5 months and when he awoke, learned not only of his daughter’s death but that his wife had left him. Facing years of rehabilitation and surgery Peter was able to endure the pain, the suffering and loss because he, like Job, had faith, patience and belief in God’s goodness and mercy.
